About Danville Washington

Ferry County, in northwest Washington, is made up almost entirely of the Kettle River Range with the exception of one town and many small communities. One of those communities is Danville. It is an unincorporated community just northeast of the city of Republic. It is located on Route 21 near the Canadian border covering only 0.18 square miles of land.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census there were only 34 people living in town. Many of which spend over half an hour commuting to work. Of these residents the average income is higher than the national average. There is one school district available to residents of Danville located in the city of Curlew just under 10 miles away.

History

Danville was originally known as Nelson and was the first town in Ferry County. Soon after it was established the Great Northern railroad was built passing through Nelson. The town name was then changed to Danville to avoid confusion with the city of Nelson in Canada.

The city was established in 1899 after the Danville Mining Company. Once known for it’s mining, when the mines became depleted the town lost its appeal. In the 1920’s during the prohibition the city became relevant again for their whisky running. But once again, the town saw a decline when the prohibition ended.
